On December 2, 3, and 4, 1981, the Air Force Geophysics Laboratory (AFGL) hosted its 2nd International Geomagnetism Workshop with the theme ‘Impulse Response of the Magnetosphere.’ The participants gathered to analyze interactively a data base consisting of ground magnetometer measurements from nearly 100 observatories. The global distribution of these observatories is illustrated in Figure 1, and Table 1 lists the observatory sponsors and workshop participants. The workshop organizing committee was chaired by Paul Fougere of AFGL and Howard Singer of Boston University. The purpose of this report is to inform the geophysics community of the purpose, organization, and results of this workshop.
