The Inaccessible Earth

This book is certainly the best of half a dozen or so texts on earth and planetary interiors I have reviewed. The authors have significantly different backgrounds, Geoff Brown being a geochemist interested in the origin of granite, while Alan Mussett is a geophysicist working on paleomagnetism and rock dating. The book reads as though it were the happy consequence of each collaborator insisting that the other write in a manner easily understood by his coauthor.

The Inaccessible Earth can be confidently recommended for undergraduate physical science majors, as well as being useful to graduate students and researchers wanting guides to the solid earth outside their own specialties.
