In Eos (June 22, p. 547), The University of Chicago is described as a large municipal university. It is actually a private university with about 2600 undergraduates in a liberal arts college and 5000 graduates in divisions and graduate schools. Its campus and ethos are similar to those of Johns Hopkins University. Most of the faculty and students of The University of Chicago live in Hyde Park, within walking distance of the university, in distinction to the commuting faculty and students of many large municipal universities.
