Resolved, That the House of Representatives commemorates the 25th Anniversary of the beginning of the International Geophysical Year [IGY], and reaffirms the commitment of the House of Representatives to a new, vigorous era of international cooperation in all the sciences.

The House of Representatives unanimously passed this resolution, H.R. 514, just before the close of the 97th Congress. The resolution ‘mentions just a fraction of the scientific advancements achieved during the 18-month period of IGY,’ Tim Wirth (D.-Colo.) told colleagues in the House. He introduced the resolution last June and testified before the House Science and Technology Committee on behalf of the resolution (Eos, August 24, 1982, p. 617).
