Galileo Asteroid Flyby

An asteroid flyby option has been added to the Galileo mission to Jupiter, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has announced. The option will permit mission scientists to decide after launch whether to fly by the asteroid 29 Amphitrite in December 1986. Information obtained from the flyby may help scientists decide whether asteroids are the source of many of the meteorites that fall to earth.
