Appalachian Hole Site Survey

Federal funding is expected to be officially approved soon for a 2-year, $2 million proposal to conduct the initial site survey for the proposed Appalachian continental drill hole as part of the Continental Scientific Drilling Program (CSDP), according to Robert Hatcher of the University of South Carolina and project director for the proposal. Three federal organizations—the Department of Energy, the U.S. Geological Survey, and the National Science Foundation—are participating jointly in CSDP.
