Abstract

Observations by the Voyager 1 and 2 plasma wave instruments may have provided evidence of the edge of the solar system by “remote sensing.” The two plasma wave receivers detected a weak signal near 3 kHz during late 1983 and early 1984 while the spacecraft were approximately 13 AU (Voyager 2) and 21 AU (Voyager 1) from the sun. The radio emissions remained fixed in frequency and varied only slightly in amplitude over the time scale of several months. The bandwidth of the emission was about 1 kHz.
