Evidence of hydrothermal venting at the north end of the Gorda Ridge was identified by a team of researchers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) this summer on the research vessel Surveyor. If high-temperature venting actually occurs at the seafloor spreading center at the site, deposits of sulfide minerals may also be present there. Located off the coast of Oregon, the Gorda Ridge is within the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
