Precambrian Tectonics Illustrated

Precambrian Tectonics Illustrated is the final report of the Subcommission on Precambrian Structural Type Regions, Commission on Tectonics, International Union of Geological Sciences. According to the preface, its purpose is “…not to produce conceptual papers, but to show how much can be revealed and solved by accurate mapping and painstaking structural analysis and, by omission, to indicate how much still needs to be done.” It “…was originally intended to serve as a good example which students and younger tectonicians would be drawn to emulate…”. Despite some very good individual chapters, I do not believe that these objectives are fully attained.
