I am surprised that A.C. Fraser-Smith is only aware of the geometric meaning of the word "sphere." According to Webster's New Universal Unabridged Dictionary (2d edition, Simon and Schuster, New York, 1979), the word also has the meaning "the place or range of action or existence."
