Ulysses to explore poles of Sun



So spoke the ancient Greek hero in Alfred Lord Tennyson's “Ulysses.” Next spring, a spacecraft bearing the adventurer's name will set out to explore just such an “untravell'd world”—the regions that lie outside the ecliptic plane. This mission out of the plane of the earth's orbit around the sun will be the subject of “Out of the Ecliptic: Observations and Predictions,” an all-day session on Monday, December 9, at the 1985 AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco, Calif.
