Abstract

The National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) has published a set of three new shaded and color relief maps of the world. These maps were generated from digital elevation and bathymetric data by using computer-based imaging and graphics technology. The maps, a logical byproduct of the advent of worldwide coverage of digital gridded data bases, represent an extensive cooperative effort between government agencies and academia. Their preparation involved efforts by several persons and institutions under the joint sponsorship of the Office of Naval Research and NGDC.
