“Sediment-Water Radium Exchange” is the title of the presentation selected by the AGU Ocean Sciences Section as the best paper given by a student at the 1986 AGU Spring Meeting. JoLynn Butts, a marine science M.S. candidate at the University of South Carolina (USC), wrote the paper in collaboration with a USC colleague. Butts received her B.A. in natural sciences and mathematics from the New College of the University of South Florida, Sarasota, in 1983. After finishing her M.S. at USC, she will continue her studies there with a Ph.D. program that will examine the transport processes in the Bay of Bengal by utilizing radioisotope tracers.
