1986 was a banner year for Eos, and SPR certainly did its share (and more) in keeping Eos interesting and informative. At the Eos editors' breakfast in San Francisco, Managing Editor Barbara Richman reported the good news (updated here to include all of 1986). Eos showed impressive gains in the amount of copy published. Articles, for example, had 197 journal page equivalents in 1986, compared to 101 in 1985 (up 96%!). Of the 58 articles published, 13 (22%) were in SPR, the largest single group. News and GAP were on a par with 1985, whereas meeting reports and news about AGU operations and activities showed a 73% and 58% increase, respectively, and book reviews and meeting announcements showed declines (−45% and −20%, respectively.) Color covers increased from 17 in 1985 to 24 in 1986—thanks to all our contributors who agreed to pay the charges for color covers! Total pages printed showed a small increase—4.1% over 1985. Congratulations to Barbara and her staff in keeping Eos rolling! The publication backlog is still longer than we would like to see, but with frequently two articles per week, the backlog is being chipped away.
