Observations of the Continental Crust Through Drilling I

This book is the product of an international symposium held in Tarrytown, N.Y., May 20–25, 1984. The individual contributions are summaries of scientific investigations planned or in progress at the time. Because continental drilling is a fast-developing field, the compendium is, in places, out of date; nevertheless, it provides perspective for the efforts that were then envisioned or underway. The book is divided into seven sections:

  • Review of National Drilling Programs
  • Thermal Regimes
  • Geochemistry and Mineral Resources
  • In Situ Borehole Measurements
  • Advances in Drilling and Logging Technology
  • Recent Results From Scientific Drilling
  • Deep Structures of Continents
