Production and global transport of dust and soot

At the recent meeting of the European Geophysical Society, at Christian-Albrechts University (Kiel, Federal Republic of Germany (FRG)), the program included a symposium entitled “Production and Global Transport of Dust and Soot in the Earth's History.” This was mainly concerned with “nuclear winter.” Chairing the morning session was P. Crutzen (Max-Planck-Institut für Chemie, Mainz, FRG), who pointed out that this symposium was dominated by speakers from the United States and that this possibly reflected the attitude of European governments on nuclear winter research.
