Forecast technology to be tested

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is presently conducting a 13-week test of the accuracy and timeliness of an integrated set o f new tools for short-range weather forecasting that were developed under NOAA's Program for Regional Observing and Forecasting Services (PROFS). The PROFS program has been proceeding in Boulder, Colo., for the past 6 years Eos, April 13, 1982, p. 233).

The tests, which began May 18, 1987, are based at NOAA's Environmental Research Laboratories in Boulder. Forecasters there are using Doppler radars, upper air profilers, and a new computer workstation.
