Rapid and far-reaching hydrologic processes in the vadose zone

Authors

Abstract

The AGU Hydrology Section sponsored a session on rapid and far-reaching hydrologic processes in the vadose zone at the 1987 AGU Spring Meeting in Baltimore, Md. The 20 presentations attracted attention to a topic of gaining importance a n d recognition in various areas of hydrology. The emerging nature of the subject and the need for more generally applicable concepts were expressed in several contributions. The issues ranged from theoretical and experimental considerations of water flow and solute transport in fractures of unsaturated rocks to observations and experiments in blocks and columns of undisturbed soils and in engineered liners to the hydrology of entire fields, hillslopes, and catchments.
