A workshop on this topic was held at the University of Arizona in the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources, February 23–27, 1987. The workshop was cosponsored by the University of Arizona and the U.S.-Israel Binational Science Foundation, with the support of a number of engineering consulting firms located in Arizona.
A broad range of issues was discussed during the workshop. The first day of the meeting was devoted to a discussion of concepts and mechanisms of water transport from the land surface to the water table. The topics discussed ranged from infiltration of run off into ephemeral stream channels to gas movement and vapor transport in the unsaturatedzone.
