John Patrick Tully, known as the “Father of West Coast Oceanography” in Canada, died in Nanaimo, British Columbia (BC), Canada, on Tuesday, May 19, 1987. Memorial services were held at Brechin United Church on Saturday, May 23. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, and two daughters, Jean (Prout) and Anne (Gill), and one son, Jim.
“Jack” Tully was born in Brandon (Manitoba, Canada) on November 29, 1906. After completing his early education at public schools in Winnipeg, he entered the University of Manitoba, where he graduated with B.Sc. Honors in biology and chemistry in 1931.
