Program grants for science education

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is soliciting proposals for projects designed to improve middle school science education. This solicitation is part of an ongoing program administered by the NSF's Division of Materials Development, Research, and Informal Science Education. Seven grants were made in 1986 and 1987 to support projects aimed at elementary school science education. Each of these projects represented the joint efforts of scientists, publishers, and school systems. The publishers provided a large part of the investment capital, the school systems provided testing grounds for the teaching materials, and the scientists assessed the quality of the science being taught.
