Continuing the recently established tradition of an award for the best GP student paper at a national meeting, an ad hoc committee chaired by Susan L. Hagedahl has honored M. Reid Wellensiek of the Department of Geological Sciences, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, for his talk at the 1988 Spring Meeting in Baltimore. Wellensiek's paper was titled “Paleomagnetism of middle Ordovician volcanics in the Weeksboro-Lunksoos Anticlinorium, north-central Maine,” and his coauthors were Rob Van der Voo, Ben A. Van der Pluijm, and Rex Johnson.
