Abstract

We are soliciting contributions to a semi-annual newsletter covering the general field of surface science studies of geologic materials. Any contributions concerning techniques (AES, XPS, SIMS, ELS, Laser Raman, FTIR, Rutherford Backscattering, solution geochemistry, etc.), processes such as adsorption, and catalysis, and new applications will be welcome.

In the first edition we hope to identify workers currently engaged in surface science studies, cite their recent contributions, and review their ongoing research activities. Subsequent editions can be used as an open forum to discuss topical issues, offer practical advice on analytical techniques, or to rapidly communicate new discoveries. This newsletter will be summarized twice a year in the VGP News. For the first newsletter please send a list of your recent contributions to surface science, a short note on your current research activities, and any suggestions for a name and acronym for this informal group before June 30, 1989. Contributions may be sent to David Mogk, Department of Earth Sciences, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT 59717.
