Michael A. Celaya received the award for best student paper in the GP Section at the AGU 1988 Fall Meeting in San Francisco. His talk, with coauthor Brad M. Clement, was “Time series analysis of two geomagnetic polarity transition records.”

Mike received a B.A. in geophysics in 1986 from Texas A&M University, College Station. He remained at TAMU through August 1988 to earn a M.S. in geophysics under Brad Clement of the Ocean Drilling Program. His thesis work, presented at the Fall Meeting, involved a time series analysis of paleomagnetic polarity transition records, with the aim of better understanding the relationship between secular variation and transitional fields.
