Abstract

The National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis at the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) announced October 30 a joint project with International Business Machines Corp. to work on the next generation of geographic information systems (GIS).

Under the 3-year contract, IBM's University and College Systems organization will supply $23 million in computer equipment. The center will evaluate the IBM hardware and software and make available to IBM hardware, software, curriculums and other materials developed using the computers.
