The Colorado School of Mines in Golden and International Business Machines Corp. are starting a project to use computer networks to integrate Earth science disciplines. Under the 3-year contract IBM will give CMS a network of PS/2 personal computers, workstations and software worth $1.7 million. The aim is to integrate geophysics, geology and petroleum engineering at the school. Research areas include finding and producing new sources of raw materials, addressing waste management issues, and identifying and mapping geologic hazards.
