Aquatic chemistry and ecology are integral components in the hydrologic cycle. Within the AGU Hydrology Section we have the opportunity to discuss the transport links between hydrology and processes determining water quality. This linkage has been a focus for special sessions organized by the Water Quality Committee in recent years. In addition to the special sessions at the Fall and Spring Meetings, a Chapman Conference was convened last September by M. Robbins Church and George Hornberger. The Conference on Hydrogeochemical Responses of Forested Catchment brought together geochemists, ecologists, and hydrologists. The Conference serves as a good example of the role the Hydrology Section can have in fostering better communications among the traditional research disciplines of the Earth sciences.
