The American Geological Institute, Alexandria, Va., has had a significant increase in funds available for minority geoscience scholarships for the 1990–1991 academic year. The number of scholarships awarded this year has more than doubled from a total of 36 in 1989–90 to 80 available for 1990–1991.
The increase is due largely to a grant from the National Science Foundation. Total value of the awards, which will be given to undergraduate and graduate geoscience students, will be $221,000. For 1989-–990 the total value was $36,750.
