A wide range of remote-sensing techniques and air-sea exchange processes are affected by modifications of marine surface microlayers. Recent information about surface microlayers, especially those surfaces modified so as to produce visible surface slicks, will be presented in a special section of JGR-Oceans. William Garrett of Orincon Corporation will serve as guest editor for the section.
Manuscripts are solicited on all aspects of surface microlayers in general and surface slicks. Manuscripts are specifically sought on the chemical and biological composition of the surface microlayer, the relation of the surface microlayer to upper oceanic and lower atmospheric conditions, surface wave modifications, and the influence of surface microlayers on radar and microwave sensing techniques. Submission of papers is open to all interested researchers.
