A uniquely comprehensive study of the late Quaternary arc volcano Tatara-San Pedro, at 36°S, in the Southern Volcanic Zone (SVZ) of the Chilean Andes (Figures 1, 2), is currently underway on the basis of new samples and field data collected earlier this year by a team of fifteen U.S. and Chilean scientists working under the auspices of the U.S. National Science Foundation.
