A federally funded mission to study a variety of oceanographic questions in Key West has been postponed indefinitely. The reason? The University of Miami oceanographic Research Vessel Columbus Iselin ran aground off the Florida Keys, while it was maneuvering to deploy a bathythermographic device. Fortunately, none of the 34 scientists and crew members aboard the vessel was injured. However, the incident as well as environmental impact of the grounding are now under investigation.
