Reflections on art

An artist has teamed up with the Sun to forge a work of sculpture that is, literally, brilliant. Janet Saad-Cook recently unveiled the first piece of what she calls the Global Sun Drawing, a series of permanent sunlight-activated sculptures. The first installment, now on display in the library of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Haystack Observatory, uses optically coated glass and mirrored metals to create evolving images on indoor surfaces as the Sun sweeps across the sky. The shimmering, multi-colored “drawings” even change according to the seasons.
