Abstract

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has used the latest technology and findings to produce new maps of seismic hazards for the United States. The agency will also rely on the latest technology to improve the maps by making them available for review and comment via the World Wide Web at http://gldage.cr.usgs.gov.

USGS has produced three sets of updated maps—national, California/Nevada, and Central/Eastern U.S.—depicting likely ground, motions and the probability that they will be exceeded in the next 50 years. Now the agency is seeking criticism and comment on the map sets, as well as additional data on fault slip rates and recurrence times.
