If you are not part of the historymaking team that will send the Cassini orbiter to Saturn, you can participate vicariously. Volunteers from The Planetary Society have offered to scan a million signatures from would-be space explorers into digital form so that they can be included in a CD-ROM mounted on the spacecraft. Earlier NASA spacecraft—including Voyager 1 and 2, Magellan, and Galileo—carried the marks of their human creators, but Cassini will be the first mission to bear Earthly greetings in electronic form.
