As part of the restructuring of the Mission to Planet Earth, NASA is soliciting ideas for a new series of small satellite missions that would conduct experiments and make observations not already built into the program. The new Earth System Science Pathfinder (ESSP) program will be designed to incorporate the latest technology and research into focused experiments in earth system science, conducted via small spacecraft. Each mission is expected to cost less than $100 million from start to finish and should launch within 36 months after being awarded. Each project would be managed by its principal investigator.
