Diplomats urge U.S. to ratify desertification treaty

While the U.S. Congress is dealing with the current presidential crisis and trying to pass a budget before adjourning in early October, some diplomats are warning that a key piece of legislation that affects nearly one billion people in more than 100 countries is being overlooked.

The Senate must ratify the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (CCD) before the next meeting of the convention on November 30 in Senegal, in order for the United States to be a full participant in working out the technical details of the treaty.
