Abstract

Far from any land masses or observing stations, the North Pole has been a difficult area for scientists to obtain longterm measurements of temperature and other variables.

In April, though, an international scientific team is heading north to lay the groundwork for a 5-year project to take the pulse of the Arctic Ocean and learn how the world's northernmost sea helps to regulate global climate.
