Effort to target agricultural runoff through farm legislation

The farm bill currently moving through the U.S. Congress could include provisions aimed at significantly reducing nitrogen and phosphorous runoff from agricultural areas, if a bipartisan group of more than 120 members of Congress has its way.

The “Working Lands Stewardship Act of 2001” (H.R.2375) would provide more than $6 billion annually to willing farmers to help reduce polluted runoff and restore wetlands.
