A new atmospheric radiation and cloud station, or ARCS, in Australia, could help to better understand climate change. The station was dedicated on 31 July.
The station is part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) program. The program, which is the agency's largest nd most comprehensive climate data collection project, includes stations in the north slope of Alaska and the southern Great Plains in the United States, and also in the tropical western Pacific. The new ARCS will gather standard types of weather data, and also measure solar and ground radiation, and cloud reflectivity.
