Greenhouse emissions reductions

Authors

Abstract

Six developing countries—including Brazil, China, and India—have reduced their greenhouse gas emissions growth over the past three decades by a total of about 288 million tons per year, according to a new report by the non-profit Pew Center on Global Climate Change. These reductions in emissions growth often have been “inadvertent,” spurred by needs unrelated to climate change, according to the report. These other needs include improving industrial efficiencies, diversifying energy resources, and cleaning up a local environment. The report, issued on 24 October, is titled “Climate Change Mitigation in Developing Countries.”
