Atmospheric map of nitrogen dioxide

The European Space Agency's (ESA) Envisat satellite for environmental monitoring has produced a high-resolution global atmospheric map of nitrogen dioxide, the agency announced on 11 October.

Scientists employed the satellite's onboard Scanning Imaging Absorption Spectrometer for Atmospheric Chartography (SCIAMACHY) instrument to record the spectrum of sunlight shining through the atmosphere, and to find spectral absorption “fingerprints” of NO, in the troposphere.
