Summary

The effect of ohmic losses in ionospheric gravity waves is analysed with respect to the selective dissipation of different wave modes. Preferred tilts of phase surfaces are determined, as a function of azimuth of propagation, and these are related to a reported propensity toward a field-alignment of frontal surfaces in travelling ionospheric disturbances.
