Summary

It is proposed that the variable crustal density variety of Airy isostatic theory introduced and developed by George P. Woollard be known as Airy-Woollard isostasy. An augmented form of Airy-Woollard isostasy involving a variable mantle density is also derived. Standard Airy-Heiskanen isostasy is compared with Airy-Woollard isostasy using the crustal column concept and basic equations.
