A diamond-anvil cell (DAC) of the lever-arm type has been modified for the measurement of Raman spectra at high temperatures and high pressures. Using the modified DAC temperatures up to 700°C have been obtained at pressures up to 7 GPa. Raman spectra were measured at various temperatures and pressures up to 350°C and 7 GPa. However, Raman spectra could not be measured above 410°C due to the strong background. From the temperature dependence of the signal from the diamond anvils it was found that the origin of the strong background in Raman spectra is the fluorescence from the diamond anvils, which increases in intensity with increasing temperature. Raman spectra of ZrO2 measured below 350°C and 7 GPa were used to determine the P-T diagram in this compound.
