Summary

A 2-D MHD simulation is performed to investigate the asymptotic quasi-static state (AQSS) of the vortex induced tearing mode instability (VITM) at the magnetopause. The AQSS is composed of a large scale magnetic island together with a co-located vortex tube. The properties of the AQSS and the detailed structures of the island and vortex tube are studied.
