Effects of anisotropy in inhomogeneous optical fibers

Abstract

An approximate computer technique investigates wave propagation along radially inhomogeneous anisotropic fibers. The electromagnetic field components are determined by numerical integration across thin concentric tubes within the fiber core. The continuity of tangential components at the tube boundaries yields a dispersion relation for the propagation constant. The effect of anisotropy on group velocity within multimode graded-index fibers is determined.
