A wave field reconstruction method has been developed and applied to VHF complex scintillation data obtained from the Wideband Satellite. The reconstructed wave fields at the altitude of the ionosphere are displayed in terms of amplitude and phase. They consist of different kinds of structures. In examples of auroral zone data, single, isolated diffraction centers can be clearly identified. But rapid fluctuating structures are encountered also, which are attributed to extended irregularities. In addition, the usefulness and limitations of the method will be discussed.
