This paper studies curvature properties of the wave fronts associated with rays emerging from the reflection of a given incident beam against an arbitrarily curved surface. Explicit formulas are given for the principal radii of curvature of the reflected wave front in terms of the corresponding radii of the reflecting surface and the wave front of the incident beam. Some applications of those formulas are considered. In particular, it is shown that the expressions for ‘divergence coefficients,’ as introduced in radio propagation theories, can be obtained from a special case of our general results.
