Spatial investigations of mode conversion between an electrostatic cyclotron harmonic wave and an electromagnetic ordinary wave

In an inhomogeneous magnetized plasma, mode conversions of an electrostatic cyclotron harmonic wave into an electromagnetic ordinary wave and vice versa are spatially investigated by a study of the ray trajectories and the wave fronts. Electrostatic cyclotron harmonic waves are found to be spatially trapped between the upper hybrid frequency layers.
