An analysis is presented of the scattered signal excited by nonlinear mixing of two plane waves normally incident on an infinitely long column of plasma. A general solution is developed for the polarization in which the electric field vectors of the waves are perpendicular to the column axis and the column is assumed to be radially inhomogeneous. The special case of second harmonic generation due to a single incident wave is treated in detail.
